Rear subframe bush removal without special tools

Here's a way to remove the rear subframe bushes without using a gas torch or a puller:

    1. Take a drill and attack the rubber parts of the bushing:
    2. Grab the center aluminium part of the bush , twist it and pull it out.

    3. Insert a hacksaw into the center of the bushing and cut a slot over the dimple part of the housing. Be careful to cut only the bushing, not the housing, the space over the dimples makes it easy.

      4. Once the slot is cut all the way through the bush (you will fill slot in the bush "grabbing" the saw when neaing complition of the slot),use a chisel to push one edge of the slot over the other (for the entire length of the bushing).

        5. Now the bushings's pressure is relieved. Place the subframe on a block of wood and tap the bushing out with a punch.

        6. Now you can fit the new bushing (trial fit in the picture).

Home Depot has an air chisel/hammer setup for $29. That's money well spent when you own a crusty old car.
