    Wilwood brake rotor bolts

    Hi folks,

So it's time to replace the wilwood rotors on my 2-piece big brake kit from RPI. Does anyone know what the deal is with the brake rotor bolts? i.e. should they be replaced everytime the rotors are changed? If so, are the bolts anything special? What torque setting should they be tightened to? Dealing with this aspect of 2-piece brake rotors is obviously quite new to me, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Drew.

Here was Lee's response when I asked him about the bolt torque on the rotors for the Massive kit...
"Bolt torque is 25ft.lbs to 30ft.lbs but it is nothing more than "firm hand torque, not too much. No grease. No Loctite. No need to over torque."

I reused my bolts with the thinking that you only torque them to 25ft-lbs so you aren't really stretching them when you tighten them and the locknuts were in good condition. The only issue might be the repeated heat cycling of them.

Hi Drew, I suggest you contact RPI to get the torque specs, as well as the nature of the fasteners (bolts and nuts). Different grades require different torque values. Don't use regular bolts for the hardware store. Use grade-8 (if the are SAE standard), or 10.9 minimum.
Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

        Thanks for the responses guys.

I've shot an email off to RPI (which I probably should've just done in the first place lol).

Yeah but with a dickhead owner that has an addiction for shiney aftermarket parts that generally make his life more difficult LOL!

RPI responded very quickly with some very helpful info. I can re-use the bolts, but will need new all metal lock nuts. They also hooked me up with all the bolt specs and the torque setting.

New GT-series rotors and EBC redstuff pads are in-bound. I'm looking forward to trying this new combo - hopefully it all turns up before the next track meet!
