Issue installing brand new rotors and brand new pads...

Finishing up a 5-lug swap. All e30 m3 equip. I rebuilt the calipers on all four corners. When installing the brand new rotors and brakes, the front were an ABSOLUTE BEAR to get on. Just seemed like no matter how much we compressed the piston back into the caliper, there was just not enough space between the pads to accomidate the massive brand new zimmerman rotor and THICK juird pads. Anyone else ever have an issue with this combo of pad/rotor?

My dad thinks my buddy and I did something wrong or that something isn't right, esp after I told him we had to hammer the back of the caliper to get it on, and that it's so tight we can't rotate either front wheel. I'm beginning to think I may have messed up the front caliper rebuilds, but I dont see how I could have possibly gotten it wrong. There's nothing to it. (Only thing I can possibly think of is that I didnt use any lube like it said to do when I skimmed the directions. The pistons were still wet/slimy from the old brake fluid - not like I stuck them in completely dry though.)

It just seemed like if we had just one more mm of space it would have slid on snuggly... instead its hammered on SUPER DUPER snug.

Again, anyone ever have this issue?

Are you sure you have the right rotors and pads? You should never have to hit it with a hammer. Always use caliper spreaders.

The caliper might be siezed but sence you just rebuilt them that shouldnt be the case. You put them in with the cup side out right? you might have to ethier get new pads or you can take some of the meat off them.

Yea, don't think there is anyway to pit the piston in upside down. Only one end had paint on it and that's the only end with a little lip around the outer edge to for the rubber boot.

Damn cars, this shit is never straight forward. If its not one thing its another :hitler:

I'll start by checking part numbers...

I went through the same bullshit as you when I did my 5-lug. What a piece of shit my car was. I wanted to push it down a cliff.

My issues have been more with the people and companies I've had to deal with along the way. My car has been good to me, at least up until now. We'll see how this pans out. I'd really rather not shave down these pads, I think just running them as is would be better but then I'm afraid the calipers will never work right. Wish I knew more about the issue. Fml.

running them as is will just cause them to overheat, you need to figure out where you went wrong (either part or installation-wise). As I am sure you understand, brakes aren't the item to run when you know something isn't right.

That's just the reason for this thread, I don't know if something is definitely wrong or if it is just a common issue with this combination rotor/pad when new. if no one lse has had this issue before and the part numbers are right I'm gong to have to assume I f'd up the rebuild and take the fuckin things apart again. Ugh.

                    something sounds way wrong
                    check your numbers
then check your specs, rotor thickness, pad thickness, etc
were the pistons completely copmpressed before you put pads in, before fluid ?
if you rebuilt the capipers, correctly, and have the pistoins completely copmprressed, then either the rotors are wrong or the pads are

No way that set up is correct. Check your part numbers, what you ordered against what is shown on the parts themselves. Check your calipers, you may have hosed the rebuild.

Sorry for you man, I hate brake jobs period. Doing it twice...UGH!! FTL big time.
