replacing brakes on my 87 325is, and my options

well if you read any of my other post i'm new to th e30 scene, but have a lot of knowledge when it comes to cars, mostly vw. so i know that some cars are compatible with others and so on, i just don't know about the e30. i need to replace my front brakes, rotors and pads, and before i go ordering up oe replacements i want to know what is the best bang for my buck.

i have no problem spending a few extra dollors on a better set up, all i want to is what are the best options, cross drilled slotted, vented, and the pads that you guys recomend. i will not track the car, so i need a streetable compound. so if you guys can drop me a few lines, and where to get them that would be great.

    thanks
    morgan

    ps i did a search.

    Yep.

Get stock rotors, as in Balo or Brembo replacements. Especially since you're not competing here, don't waste money and risk fractures with slotted or drilled rotors.

For pads, there is always a lot of conflict of opinion, but in general the EBC Green Stuff, Hawk HPS, and Axxis Ultimates are considered solid streetable setups, most with less dust than OE. Otherwise, the factory pads straight from the dealer work quite well, just dust a lot. Remember to grab some new wear sensors too (from the dealer or BMA).

I got the package from Turner Motorsport over the summer for $210. It came with OEM ATE rotors, Axxis pads, new sensors, and fluid.

so i take it that the 325 is brakes are the best availible size, and there is not much more to upgrade to for cheap. don't get me wrong, i am a very agrressive driver so i demand the binders to hold up on my aggressive driving stints. so there is not much more to be gained using slotted, or cross drilled rotors? also they don't make a vented rotor? every thing is a solid rotor?

i'm not sure if i'm saying this wright, vented is a space between each braking surface, and slotted is the machined lines that run across the braking surface?

as for pads i have had good luck with the red box on my vw's, is that not a good pad for the e30?

also who should i look at for cheap pricing, i'm on IE's sight right now and they sell ate's for 48 for regulars, and 58 for cross drilled, is this a decent price?

i also saw somewhere else that there is a preferance on one set of SS brake lines, but i forgot which manufacurer it was.

You can add ATE slotted front rotors onto Turner's kit for an extra $20, I don't have them though so I can't say weather it makes a difference or not. OEM front rotors are vented, rears are solid.

if you are planning on doing any track events, even if its just one or two a year, i'd get the slotted ate powerdiscs. the amount of heat the rotors need to withstand on a track is incredible, and a good proven set of rotors would be a wise choice. same goes for pads, but pads are more of a compromise between performance and streetability; so get what suits your needs in that area.

if some one could list the brake pads in order from most streetable, to track pads that would be great. i have only had experance with the ebc greenstuff pads, and red box. and thats not even on an e30, so...

              thanks

I've got an 87 325is with basketweaves. I put slotted Ate Powers on my front, OEM rotors on the rear, EBC Greens, and SS Lines all around. I flushed all the fluid out and put new something German "Super Blue" in my car. The feel in daily driving is much more secure, and emergency stopping is drastically improved. I've had this setup for about 35k miles with absolutely no problems...go for it!
