Brake upgrade opinions for my situation??

I'm looking into a brake upgrade for my s50 powered car. So far, I've only done a bunch of autocrosses and the stock brakes have been just fine. I've been looking into doing a HPDE and am not real comfortable with the stock brakes for this. Sould I give it a try with the stockers first? Would a Massive street kit be worth the cash for an occasional DE? Should I wait longer and get a sport kit instead?

Its not a dedicated track car, but honestly, it hasn't seen a lot of "street" time lately either.

    Thanks for any input.

A set of race pads, plain rotors, and front brake ducts will probably be all you'll need and that will be a lot cheaper than a BBK.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I'm using this kit for my track car which has OD1 M52 (S52 cams, Euro MAF, header, yada, yada...) and I would call it serviceable. If you're going to hardcore track the car I would look for something else (which is what I will be doing when budget allows, I just didn't have the cash to buy sets of new wheels to clear the brakes while still trying to finish off the swap) but as you've said for the occasional DE you'll be fine with track pads and good fluid with this kit.

I assume you're talking about the Massive street kit?

You'll definitely be able to go past the limit of the stock brakes (with track pads) with an S50. It may not happen on your first HPDE or even your second, but as you get more comfortable with your car and start to push braking points closer to the limit you'll fade them badly.

I think the 280mm rotor would be just fine for you.

don't forget some good fluid (ATE, Motul, etc.) and you should have no problems.

Agreed. Just make sure your calipers have been recently rebuilt (sliding pins and pistons aren't binding) and use a full on set of race pads ie, hawk dtc60, hawk ht10, pfc 01, etc (no hp+). I hpde'd my s52 for a season with a stock setup, plus dtc 60s and brake ducts. The pads become expensive after a while, but you can buy a lot of $130 pads for the price of a BBK + wheels + tires (1500+).

Plus, I haven't seen anyone do this with a BBK:
