    Rear Crossmember Damage?

I'm looking into purchasing an E30. The person selling it said the rear crossmember needs to be replaced. Is that part of the subframe? What will that affect and how could it have happened? Any help would be appreciated.

he's probably talking about the subframe itself. I could have been bent slamming into a curb or pothole. This happened to my brother's e30 and we just swapped out the subframe for a junkyard unit. Make sure you replace the bushings and the car will feel really nice and solid.

Shoot. I'm very inexperienced so attempting to drop and replace the subframe probably wouldn't be the best place to start. Unless anybody says otherwise, I'm gonna keep looking.

Dropping the subframe is kind of like an e30 inaugural process. DO EET.

(First check if the rest of the underbody is fine tho, hah.)

I somewhat doubt that the rear subframe needs to be replaced, though that is possible. The rear trailing arms normally take the hit and bend, protecting the subframe. The only times I've seen a bent subframe the damage to the unibody has been worse (and glaringly obvious).
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Plenty of guides around, get the bentley manual as well. Most of the guides center on replacing the bushings. Its really pretty straight forward.
I don't always wreck cars, but when I do I wreck them into trees.
