Brake light on then #10 Fuse blows.

The brake idiot light came on. I removed the front wheel - the pads looked OK but the sensor cable was cut and wired together? The front rotors were warped a little so I went ahead with brake work and the rear rotors were grooved and thin also. I replaced all pads, rotors and sensors. Thinking the old sensor cable was shorting out and blowing the fuse plus the idiot light would finally leave me alone. Hell no!

Before and after the brake work the #10 Fuse blows: tach, temp, fuel gauges, service lights, obviously a short but how do I chase it?

Most of the time it blows when people try to put their car in reverse. Something shorts in the reverse light wiring and it'll blow everytime. This happened in both of my cars, so I just disconnected the reverse lights.

Yes, check this. The wiring for the lights passes through the body in the same hole that the shift lever passes through, and all the movement from shifting evetually cracks the wire insulation allowing it to short and blow the fuse.

You guys are right! Pulled the shift boot and checked the wiring leading to the reverse light switch - came right out and was cut in two. Now it's disconnected. Thanks! (maybe I'll disconnect the brake lining light also)
