    Interesting subframe/trailing arm issue

So, about 5 years ago, I replaced my subframe bushings with poly bushings. After about a year and a half, I started getting some knocking from the passenger rear side. I looked at everything and couldn't figure it out. I assumed something must have happened with the subframe or bushings. The car is my 3rd car, so it's been mostly sitting for the last few years. Well, I finally got around to taking the subframe off and was surprised at what I found.

One of the trailing arm bolts on the passenger side (the outermost one) had been moving in the hole it goes through in the subframe. Due to the movement, the hole in the subframe was now oval, and the bolt had been thinned out somewhat in the same area. Definitely the cause of the knocking, however the trailing arm bolt was tight/didn't show looseness when inspected. It was only upon taking it out that I discovered it. Luckily, I had another subframe laying around from a parts car.

Has anyone else had this happen or is it just a freak occurrence?

Either the trailing arm bolt wasn't properly tightened, or the sleeve in the bushing was too short. When everything is correct there is metal to metal contact from the bolt head to the nut.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
