318 & 325 brakes, what's the difference and are they exchangeable?

From what I've read, 318i's come with drum brakes at the back and Disc brakes up front however 325i's come with discs all around? If so changing a 318i's brakes with a 325i's would be an upgrade right?

As you can read I'm quite the noob when it comes to brakes, hence the fact I wanna stick with BMW's parts.

A search on here.....or realoem/bmwfans would have given you your answer 3 hours ago.

Not sure if its 100% the same in Australier, but..

318i's with an M10 (early 318 - ie metal bumpers) have drum brakes in the rear, discs in the front

    318i/is's with an M42/(40?) have 4 discs.

    325e, 325is, 325i, 318is (91+), 318i(91+) all have identical brake setups. Completely interchangeable.

Early 318s have smaller shock diameters than 325s and later 318s.

    Hope that'll help,
    Cheers brah....

Early 318's AND 325's (85 and under iirc) ran solid front brakes and drum rear brakes, 3 line brake master cylinders, and smaller diameter strut tubes.
