    Stock brake performance

I have an 89 325i and have replaced the front brakes with Brembo slotted rotors and Hawk HPS+ pads. The rears were fine and not replaced. Tire rack was on back order on the rotors and my pads were done when I bought the car so I put the new pads on with the old rotors on. I put the Brembo rotors on later and I have to say the brakes work well but are rather lack luster compared to my previous 2000 Jetta which I had mintex pads and ate slotted rotors in the front. I have flushed the fliud with super blue as well.

Is this just due to a 20+ year older brake system design or my mis matched brake part installation?

HP+ pads should give you pretty good brake performance on the street. They are marginal for track duty. While most of the braking is done by the front wheels, having lower performance pads on the rear wheels will reduce braking performance.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
