Can shake the wheel a little bit after new bearings.

    Hi guys.

So I just had some new Bearing pressed into my trailing arms. One problem for some reason one trailing arm is smaller then the other, one must be from an early model 318i. So that did not bother me so much.

Then I went and installed the tralling arms and the one that is smaller has some play in the hub, I can shake the wheel a few mm. I can't understand why there is some play since I have new bearings.

Can anyone give me some idea what the problem might be. Cheers.

Have you installed the half shafts? Some motion in the wheel is normal until the half shafts are installed.

Yeh everything is buttoned up nice and tight. I am actually driving the car as I need it at the moment.

Is the entire trailing arm moving maybe? How are your TA bushings?

No just finished doing a ful suspension rebuild. I have a suspision that maybe the hub is from a late model and the traling arm is from and early model would could this course the issue.

When you installed the axels did you torque the nuts to spec?

Yep I did it in 4 steps 80ftb 110ftb 130ftb then 150ftb. I know it is not because something is loose I am 99% sure it has something to do with the hub and bearings, would there be any reason this could happen besides a bad install, cos the install is all good.

Since the nuts are tightened to spec, either you have a bad bearing or the hub is not correct for the trailing arm.

Yeh the bearings are brand new and were installed froma very reputable BMW mechanic. So there is differances in hubs from early models and late models.

Just because the bearings came from a reputable source doesn't mean that one of them was bad. I know that there is a difference between nonABS and ABS hubs, but you'd have to check part numbers on realoem.com for other variations.
