i am already using vise grips. I tore the boot away so i could get a better hold. No luck

its easy. you put the jack under the ball joint, whack it 3-4 times on the side with a BFH then boom, it comes right off.

OP, get some visegrips and hold the fucking thing from spinning, you are replacing it anyway.

I'm gonna have to do this next weekend....Bentley manual makes it seem very easy..lol.

I bought the ball joint separator tool from Harbor Freight...also bought a puller to pull the bushing off the arm as i'm replacing it with AKG poly offset bushing. Any other tools? I guess i have to go buy a 22mm open end wrench?

That is mostly because you aren't using the right tools. Pressure on the bottom of the ball joint and an impact wrench on top is the trick. If the fasteners are so corroded that doesn't work, a nut splitter will.

you can't fit an impact wrench in there ;)

Put enough pressure on the bottom of the ball joint with the jack to cause the jack stand on that side to not be supporting the car. Don't lift that side off the jack stand, just make it loose and not taking weight.

got it almost threaded off. But is now stuck at the top of threading. Nut is about 1/4 off the stud. Still twisting, I have ball joint jacked up with the pickle. nada

yea I said I did that. Should I jack it up more and have more of the weight on the jack than the stands?

okay, well I had a 22mm box end wrench on there, a pickle fork hammered in, and a jack underneath the ball joint. I was able to move the nut, but I think it's twisting the joint around, rather than the nut on the thread. I have used a ton of PB and still no use.

having extreme troubles with getting the socket on the drivers side. There seems to be a metal peice in the way. Anyone?

yes, that metal piece is the shield for the motor mount. Unless that is missing you are speaking of the motor mount bracket itself?
