Butt Strut - Who has one?

I was reading this thread: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=52793

I havent done much metal work, but the butt strut looks easy to reproduce. Its just a flat rod with a few bends. I just want to make sure I've got the idea right:

(mot's subfame + my mad ms paint skillz)

So if i fab a piece of strong metal with those bends I should have a stiffer chasis, verdad?

It stiffens up the rear chassis on a cabrio, which lacks C-pillars (or B-pillars for that matter) for support/strength.

yeah well it'll do the same for a coupe or sedan but that is not a strut, it is merely a rear lower tie/reinforcement bar... as long as you use some good stainless and dont weld/bend like an idiot it will give you a bit more stability when putting power down. i have seen this such bar on an e30 before but it was tubular and was bolted on with brackets instead of welded (yes the owner drilled holes)... interesting idea imo.

"Having won more road races than any other model in history, the E30 M3 is considered by many to be the world's most successful road race car." - Simply put, E30s kick ass.

              thanks.

that's what I was hinting at, lol

Come to think of it though, maybe I should try for one of these, as my tourings got a fat ass, she's a little sloppy

There is a company that actually manufactures them and calls them the "Butt Strut." Hence Ben calling it such.

ya, but usaully only z and mz3 owners use them, because of their well documented issues of the entire subframe riping off the chassis....
