So, I know this is elementary Watson, but I've had my 84 Eta for a few months now, and I'm starting to do minor maintenance myself. Maintenance done so far are oil & filter twice (use the LubroMoly MoS2- love it), changed coolant, tranny, diff fluid, plugs, and new brake fluid. If I do say so myself, I think I've done a pretty decent job on all these, though minor. I gotta start somewhere...
however where i must concede is in the brake realm... they scare the shit out of me. I did replace my old fluid with the BavAuto pressure thing, but after I did all 4, realized that I'd had my E-Brake on, so I was going to have to do it again... this is where it gets bleak. (as i understand, it was ok to bleed all of them with the E-Brake on, it doesn't affect it...) so on my second round trip of bleeding, I get to the Fr L caliper, and shear the bleed screw off while tightening. I drove it around, did some pedal stomping, it's not leaking out of that screw, so that's something. But eventually, i guess i'm going to need to replace the caliper when I change the fluid again... I've heard I can try EZ Out or drilling it or something of the sort... thinking a $70 reman'd caliper is probably my best bet.
Is replacing a caliper something a Level 1 Tinkerer can do?
Also, how do I know whether I have ATE or Girling calipers? Does it say on the caliper? If so, where?
Sorry for the rant, just trying to ensure contextual information is present.
