Control arm balljoint nut above subframe, what size?

Is it 21mm or 22mm? Also what do you guys find works best? Regular wrench? My sway bar will be out of the way.

Mine was a 22mm. And I used a regular wrench on one side and on the other I connected all of my extensions together and placed a swivel on the end and got it off that way.

Hope this helps. If not there a quite a few walk throughs for this through out the internet.

      22mm.

I just used a regular box-end wrench on it. Make sure you use a floor jack right under the ball joint until it lifts up a little bit off the jack stand so that the ball joint doesn't spin. I actually used my foot to break it free, it worked rather well. I had a wall behind me so that helped that I had something to press my back against. You can even use your foot on the other side to pull it off.

^^ that doesn't seem very safe to me lol

I'm taking out the sway and everything so i'll try it with a wrench.

          If you're like me...all the stores near by didn't have a 22mm so I used a 7/8ths instead...worked just as good.

I somehow managed to partially strip mine on the passenger side using a 22mm box wrench. PITA. I think I'm gonna have to try and hacksaw it off.

IIRC some are 21mm and some are 22mm. Depends on how old the car is.

My 86 was a 22mm, the replacement control arms came with a 21mm locknut. So will be one of the two!
