a proper brake duct setup will extend the life of your pads. i have the RRT backing plates, el cheapo ducts where my fogs used to be, and the special hose RRT sells connecting it all together. the hose is not regular dryer hose; it is some sort of cloth hose with a wire embedded to give it support.
the old backing plate is completely removed when installing the ducted backing plates. when i had the stock plates, i caught more little pebbles in there than you could shake a stick at. i felt poor driving a bmw that made squeeling sounds.
i haven't had it on the track yet, but my sister's fiancee's friends friend from college tell me its the tits. RRT found that on their JStock race car during the O-fest races at VIR, that the ducts extended the life of their pads 2-3x
Quick question, I have an 87is that has the factory brake ducts routed to the smaller, lower vents in my valance. I have lost the ducting on one side, and am now debating as if I should use the stock ducts or create somthing for the foglight area. How much airflow is required to keep the rotors cool enough?
