Sat for a while, now I can't bleed brakes and hear an air leak

    Hey R3v,

My car sat around for a few months while I was job searching/buying a daily driver. All it needed was a front brake caliper rebuild and obviously bleeding the brakes after.

I finally replaced the seals (again) and got new hoses on, but when I went to bleed the brakes I heard air escaping from somewhere around the pedals or booster. Couldn't quite pick it out exactly.

Any ideas? Has anyone had this happen to them when a brake system has sat around with little to no brake fluid in the lines for a while?

    Thanks for any input!

The sound of air when you pump the brakes is probably from the booster. I doubt that you'd hear air from the master cylinder. If the brake system sat dry for a while, failure of a seal in the MC is a possibility.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

It could the seals that go in between the brake fluid resivor and the master cylinder. I had one fail on me while the car was sitting. I could hear a whooshing noise from the same location and the pedal would go to the floor. I changed out the two seals and it was back to normal.

Awesome, this is what I'm counting on as well since it sat with very little brake fluid in the system for quite a while. Hopefully I'll have time to look at it this weekend.

        thanks guys
