Play It SideWays - Free Control Arm Bushings CAB Lollypop Exchange Program

here's what i'm thinking about doing.....
i will send a set of used oem E30 lollypops, that need new bushings pressed in, to whoever is going to do the control arm bushings [cab] soon on their E30.
this way you have a set that you can take to the machine shop to have new bushings pressed in to the lollypops at a 'relaxed pace'.
then when you get under there to work, you can simply swap out the lollypops i send you that you already had the bushings pressed in for your wore out bushing and lollypop assemblies.
you dont have to take yours out of the car and then get a second car to get a ride, or wait for the machinist, or worry that some glitch in the whole process will make it so that your car is torn apart and you cant drive it.
to be part of this free program, your lollypops must be oem original bmw parts and your car cant have been in a wreck or smashed a curb or had more than 4 really fat chicks in at one time.
you understand this , dont you?
so i'll start it out by taking the hit for the cost of the parts and the shipping to the next guy who needs them to be used as expalined above, lets call him E30-1.
then when E30-1 is done he posts up and then E30-1 pays to ships them to E30-2, then E30-2 pays to send them to E30-3.....
but no holdng onto then for months at a time, or selling them, or replacing them with pos parts, etc.
so since E30-1 didnt pay to have them shipped to him, when he ships them to E30-2 he is kinda paying to have them shipped to himself, sorta.
i guess its up to E30-x to determine if the next guy is a pos or not and figure out if he/she is worthy.
so unless you are a total idiot you get what im saying.
i dont know if shipping outside the usa is crazy priced so lets keep it to usa only for cost reasons only. but if you are E30-x, ship them where ever you want.
so im E30-0, who needs the parts soon and wants to be E30-1? post and pm.
    why am i doing this?

Interesting idea, it would work great until you get a broken link in the system, i.e., someone who decides to keep a set of lollypops. Also, rather than having someone push the bushings in, you can do what I did and use a 3lb hammer and a 2x6. Worked great and took about 10-15 minutes for both of them.

I guess I am not real encouraging, sorry.

there are companies that already do this. and I agree with Boise, it honestly doesn't take that long.

        yeah but thats reality.
maybe the info that they are a pos is worth the lollypops.

i put the m3 bushings [$40 for the bushings] in and a set of lollypops with the bushings pressed in was over $100. and then you have a set of old lollypops. just trying to keep the costs down.
also pounding them in is usally easier than getting the old ones out.

to get the bushings out just drill and saw. Took me like 2 hours to replace my cabs at home.

Here is how I installed my CAB's...Tools required: 2 blocks of wood, and a big ass hammer.
              <

              <

              <

To remove them first, I used the technique that codyep3 said above, drill out a chunk of the bushing and saw through the metal sleeve on the outside of the bushing, and it knocks right out.

they are the 80mm studs that Kaliboy sells. The nuts are chrome I believe.

Before removing the Control Arm Bushings, how can you tell if your lollipops need replacement? I think the rust on mine is on the CAB's themselves, but maybe someone with more experience can tell me if I should replace the lollipops too. Also, do you guys use 'suspension grease' to ease in the CAB's?
