    Mcoupe diff cover

i know that some people use Mcoupe diffs in their e30s. My question is why do some of the diff covers have 2 mounting ears, and some have only one.

The e30 just has the one mount on the diff cover, but some of the mcoupe diffs I see have 1 mount, and some have two mounts.

Also, if I get an Mcoupe LSD that came with the cover with 2 mounts, will I just need to swap out covers with one with a single mount? or can I just not use that mount and leave it there?

    thanks.

This is what i am talking about. Why do some have a single mount, and some have a double mount:

You need to get the one with the single mount, as for why the double mount option is there, i'm not to sure possibly a different diff? or maybe its a later verison.

      33 11 2 228 335 is the part number you want.

Oh and gustave has a good write up on it over on his site

Yeah, i know that I will need a single mount cover for my e30, but I am looking at buying an mcoupe LSD but it has the double mount. I assume the other diff cover will just swap on without any problems?
Will my e30 diff cover work with the Mcoupe diff? The Mcoupe cover works on an e30 diff, so i would assume that it works the other way around too...

It should swap back without any problems, I believe.

AFAIK that other diff cover is from a S54 powered Coupe/M3. It will not fit a e30 diff.

exactly, the proper cover is the one with one ear. make sure you get the hardware and gasket new as well.

So, are you saying that if the cover has two mounting places, the entire differential will not work, or just the cover? Will I be able to use that diff with my e30 diff cover?

I am looking to buy a 3.23 LSD from am Mcoupe if that helps at all...

The double ear cover is from an E46.

Even S54 powered M Coupes use the single mounting.

Alright it turns out that the Mcoupe LSD that I was asking about accually had only one mount. The seller just got that diff mixed up with a different one, so he thought it had the double mount... All that confusion for nothing...
At least now I have a new Mcoupe LSD.

Are you sure its really a LSD?

Most OBDII M-Coupes that I've looked at at work do not have LSD.

Don't all 'M cars' have LSDs? Even obd2 cars?

It should be a LSD. I spun the input shaft, and the output flanges spun the same way. I spun one output flange and the other spun the same way. If I hold onto one output flange, i cannot rotate the other one.

There was no tag on the diff to verify though. I just had to do the field tests...
