ABS connector replacement. To splice or not to splice?

Has anyone replaced the plastic ABS connectors that are in the main harness? If so, did you just splice it close or open up the whole harness, and run it to the ABS controller under the dash? I have two in the engine bay that just crumbled when I disconnected them. If you have replaced these, please let me know how you did it and if it worked out OK. Thanks!

I've done that by getting the relevant connectors with a pigtail of wire from a salvage yard and splicing them in.
