    No ABS?

Was traveling to work this morning when a car cut into my lane from the third lane and I had to brake hard. What I found surprising was that the tires screeched and felt that the back was going to fish tail so I released pressure from the brakes. Now, my car is an 88 325i (June '88), and so I was thinking that shouldn't I have the ABS kick-in or something? I noticed that I don't have the ABS indicator though located on the cluster.

I checked the engine, and saw that there is contraption under the coolant reservoir, but I think that its only an EBD of some sort. Bentley doesn't speak much about it either.

No ABS? Or ABS is not working? Entering the VIN, didn't see it either. Can you convert it from non-ABS to ABS?

If you don't see the ABS light on the dash come on with ignition and go off when the engine fires, the bulb could be burned out and/or the ABS inoperative. This car should have ABS. The ABS unit is located in the left ront of the engine bay and will have brake lines connected to it.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Hi Jim. So the contraption under the coolant reservoir is indeed the ABS. Unfortunately, Bentley says that troubleshooting and repair is beyond the scope of their manual. Sigh. Anyway you know how to check that its working? Or should I just replace the whole thing?
