Scraping sound in back brakes?

when i brake, near the point of stopping i hear a scraping sound in my back brakes. It doesnt sound good. any idea? Have the brakes had it?

Its worthy to mention that i have seen the brakes smoke before. (The E30's been driven a few times with the handbrake up -_- )

You need new shoes if you have an 84/85 or pads if you have a later model. Inspect the drums or rotors (again, depending on the model) for damage.
