I recently developed a problem in my rear brakes. The inner pads of the rear brakes have excess play even after I bent and adjusted the 3 prongs on the pad. Everytime I brake, I can hear the clunk from the pad hitting the caliper. The pads still has lots of meat on it. Is it time for pads or caliper?

What usually happens if there are no anti-vibration clips or the clips are broken/loose is that the pads will rattle at low speeds when the brakes aren't in use. This sounds like something different. Check the calipers and caliper carriers. The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

This is what I have searched. http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=439807 Is this normal? The pad I have now are PBR pads. It is not vibration problem, it is the pad hitting the caliper carrier every time I brake. I bent the prongs but after few blocks of braking it comes back again. I'll try new pads to see what happens.sigpic

Have the same problem
Quite annoying when driving in on and off conditions
Tried to bend the prongs back, but no luck: they would always loosen. The securing clip likes to loosen itself and rattle around in my left rear caliper too. Haven't found a remedy as I've been driving the car for that way for 6+ months now with only temporary fixes. Completely brake system is working, but nothing is absolutely secure, and it's annoying me because I never know what can happen with these things.
Only thing I can think of is that the piston isn't applying force properly and uniformly, and is causing it to rub awkwardly and the wear pattern isn't completely straight, causing prongs to bend.
Only thing I can think of is a caliper rebuild, which, aside from taking the caliper off an disconnecting lines: I haven't the faintest clue to start.Last edited by JinormusJ; 08-19-2013, 02:18 PM.Comment
