The drifting setup on E30s has been to add an entirely separate additional caliper and hydraulic system. Which, if you aren't drifting, is completely stupid.no i understand the concept quite clear. i understand its a disc brake system with drums as the parking brake... im trying to eliminate the drum parking brake and use a caliper that has an integrated parking brake via cable. i.e... the mk4 VW set ups... i am just simply saying i dont like the drum parking brake set up... thats all.Leave a comment:

It's not drum brakes man, its four wheel disc brakes with an integrated parking brake system. I think you may have listened to too many old guys moaning about drum brakes and maybe you don't understand the concept here.Leave a comment:

I been lookin in to this as well, and 90's honda rotors are the same lug and depth. i was personally thinking of trying a honda big brake kit. Because honda calipers have the ebrake built on for use with a cable. It cant be too hard to get our cable mated to one, can it? Also you would need and adapter for the caliper but they are made for others so how hard can it be? Only down fall is the aftermarket only has 1 piston calipers withe the ebrake built in. Here is what I was thinkin.

Yes the drifiting thing had crossed my mind a few times... im really just in the "get all my ducks in a row" mode and compiling all the info and having all the questions i have answered before i start tearing shit apart. i dont mind keeping the stock system lol i just dont like drums. anyway... thanks for all the insightLeave a comment:

No, late model 318i/iS came with disc brakes. I'm guessing your friend got robbed by someone with an m10 car some time in the past.
And, OP, sounds like you are trying to reinvent the wheel. For parking your car, the brake system designed is sufficient. It sounds like you must want to go drifting, and this is why you want upgraded parking brake ability. If that is the case, just leave the parking brake stuff and buy a Massive Brakes adapter for the caliper mount, then pick up a lever/cylinder setup and install it as a seperate from stock system.Leave a comment:

ya i really wasnt trying to go full custom and i really was just throwing the idea around of a hydraulic ebrake... but i most likely wont.. and caliper upgrades for the rear tho?? are the rx7 calipers for the rear that everyone does?Leave a comment:

I have 2, 91 318is's both have discs with drum for parking brake. I wonder how your friend came to have drum brakes in the rear?...Leave a comment:

My friend's 91 318iS has drums
Pretty sure all m42 cars came with drumsLeave a comment:

What M42 car came with drums? US wise 84 and 85 318i had them...There isn't a swap that gets rid of the drum style emergency brakes. m10/m42 cars came with full drums while m20 cars came with rear caliper discs/e-brake drums.
That's as updated as you can get without going into custom aftermarket brackets and hydraulic e-brake setups
As far as the rear disc/drum setup, I'm not sure how you would deviate from that particular setup although I have seen a couple members on the board run hydraulic setups.Leave a comment:
