Messed up my e-brake. Please help a brake noob, thinking about bringing it into the s

So I was doing my brakes, rotors and pads.

Didn't know a lot about the ebrake and the rotors, ended up yanking the clip from an ebrake shoe through the dust shield. Left the ebrake up while removing the rotor.

It went back together decently. But with fresh rotors my ill adjusted ebrake drums would drag on the inside of the rotor.

I dicked around with it and fucked them up entirely, now my ebrake will not click and my rear end/ cables make horrible noises. So I need advice on how to fix this Ive tried adjusting a few times but I can't seem to get the ebrake to be able to click again....

And I can't seem to keep them from making a racket.

Pulling the retaining pin through the backing plate has destroyed it. The immediate workaround is to remove the e-brake stuff from both sides. A couple of chocks can be used for safety when parking on a slope. The long term fix is to replace the backing plate, but that will mean removing the hub and a new set of bearings. Since the half shaft has to come off, you might want to replace the boots and repack the CV joints if the boots are cracked. Use only the BMW OE boot kits.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

      Yikes.

Is the clip to the dust shield that vital?

That "clip" is part of the spring retainer the holds the e-brak shoe in position. So it is vital to the operation of the e-brakes.

Always release the brake before doing rear brakes.
