E brake lever/handle is too far foward.

My 88 325ix's ebrake handle is a little too far up on the stalk/rod. So the handle overlaps the button on the end by about 1/2 inch. The ebrake works, i just have to poke my finger in the end of the handle then pull up.

Would it be ok to take a heat gun to the handle and tap it down with a rubber mallet?

Mine did that and I didn't have to heat it up I just slid it down with a little force
Just try sliding it by hand or just a tap with the mallet before trying to heat it
