Brake Booster Removal Question

Got the 4 bolts loose and the MC off. In this link here,

am I also supposed to take off part number 9? Otherwise, it looks like the pushrod link extends too far into the car to actually pull the booster out.

Wrestled it free of the car, but I cannot get this off. Even tried with a 17mm on the nut and a 16mm on the part that connects to the pedal -- wouldn't budge...

Also, when I pulled it off, there was a thin foam strip/gasket type of thing between the booster and the mounting location the engine bay side, but I cannot find a part number for it. Any ideas?
