    tie rod mysteries

Alright so I am in the middle of doing my front suspension. The passenger side went well and is completed. I am having problems getting the tie rod nut off the tie rod, at the spindle. The problem is, there are 2 nuts there. So something funny was going on with the previous owner. The top one comes off fine but the bottom one just spins there. This is what confuses me, it spins when racheting on it, but the bolt up top doesnt move at all. I have tried putting a jack underneath the ball joint, and the nut still just spins, and the bolt stays stationary. Im guessing the nut is stripped if not this blows my mind.

yes i broke the boot with a pickle fork, i did on the other side too.
new ones are on the way.

I have yet to see one of these not come off with an impact socket.

Sounds like the PO stripped the threads and installed a second nut to keep it tight. You're going to have to pry on that lower bolt untill it grabs some threads, or try a nut splitter on it.

um throwing a brute force method at ya here, pickle fork(impact hammer) -- or maybe a crowbar you can keep tension on pulling the link down from the spindle and imact wrench at same time, you already have to replace it might as well throw a bunch of pneumatics at it.

went at if today with a grinder and nut splitter.. no dice, i ruined the threads underneath. That leaves me carless until my new rods come in.

I grinded one side of the nut off then whacked it with a pickle fork.
