    brake dust shield help

I noticed some light metallic scraping sounds yesterday, increasing frequency with vehicle speed, but not engine rpm. after lightly pulling the e-brake it was clear it was an issue with the e-brake somewhere.
Today it got progressively worse (embarrassed to drive in public type of sounds).
I took the brake disk off and found the ebrake spring/pin rattling around in the inner drum of the rotor. Step 1 complete, found the source.

Bad news is that the hole that this pin locates in is rotted and rusted, which is why it fell out to begin with.

I would love to replace the dust shield with brand new shiny parts, but it turns out I will need to replace the hub bearings, and the brake lines that are pretty rusty (and I JUST bled new fluid 2 days ago) so I would rather not go down that long, dark, expensive road.

Any ideas on how to get the pin to stay? I read a thread elsewhere about using a washer, but not sure how that will work since you need the hole to be obround (to slide in and rotate to lock).

    From another expert I know:

The backing plates can be a PITA to replace, but I have cut them at the narrow where the brake caliper sits, then bend them slightly to get around the hub. Now you can weld the plate back together or just leave it, as it won't really make much of a difference.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
