    Rear Popping help

    Hi there REV,
Wanted to get some thoughts on an issue I've had for some time now. Slow speed cornering popping and shifting of my rear. '88 325i vert. Sometimes the popping doesn't happen, sometimes it is a couple of little pops and 'shifting' (shifting of the rear of the car is unnerving, btw), sometimes its one major pop and shift.

I replaced the rear shocks (and mounts) when I got the car. Put a new circlip and seal inside the final drive passenger side (kind of where it seems like the popping is coming from) - I had noticed that that side's drive shaft was pulling from the diff and since the circlip, I have looked and looked, but I don't think that same problem is happening anymore. Just this past weekend, I did the guibo and CSB - CSB was complete trash.

The only other things I have in my possession already are the subframe bushings. Getting things together to get those on, but thought I would open up to anyone else with an opinion on what the problem could be. I've looked around and don't see any other rubber bits that are completely trashed.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

The change in attitude when the popping occurs suggests a problem with the trailing arm or subframe bushings.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I had kind of the same problem here: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=335005

The subframe mount had broken away from the body and was moving around when I went over bumps or unloaded the suspension in any way. No pops surprisingly. It's easy to check; just lift the rear seat bottom up and you'll see the subframe mounts on either side. I didn't see anything from looking under the car so I wouldn't have found it had I not lifted the rear seat.

Do you have a limited slip diff? if its got the wrong oil in it, it could be causing the binding.. and that binding will be causing all kinds off loose parts to bang around, if stuff is in fact loose.

my car has all urethane trailing arm and subframe/diff bushings, but before I did that, they were all stock bushings that were shot. the only thing I noticed was extreme wheel hop when accelerating hard
