A little background info:
I have an E30/M50 GTS2 racecar with a Massive Brakes Wilwood Superlite setup front & rear. The car has exhibited a hard brake pedal ever since purchasing it years ago with the original stock brake setup. Specifically, there is full movement of the brake pedal and I don't have an issue with braking power, but when I apply the pedal it feels as if there is a strong resistance and subsequently a very quick application of the brakes is not really possible. It almost feels as if there is a constriction, but since fluid flows normally from all bleeders while bleeding I'm assuming this can't be the case.
Furthermore, the car also exhibits a 'slow release' of the brakes, which I think might only happening from the rears. What's happening is that when I release the brakes, it takes about a full second before the brakes release fully. When driving the car at any speed, the forward momentum overcomes the delay without an issue, but I notice it more if momentarily stopped on a very slight incline. In those instances, if I release the brakes, it takes about a second before the car will roll.
In an effort to chase down and solve the problem, I have replaced the brake booster (2 times), all brake lines, the abs pump, master cylinder, and pressure regulator to rears. I have also just rebuilt all 4 calipers. The only things I haven't swapped in the braking system are the actual hard brake lines and the little distribution piece that feeds the rear brake lines.
A couple of other clues in case it helps inspire any other ideas:
1. When bleeding, more effort is required to push the pedal when the rear bleed screws are cracked open, as opposed to bleeding the fronts. (The car has exhibited this trait every since I got it.) Is this normal for an E30?
2. Car has also always had a hard pedal, even before installing Lee's BBK and the 25 mm master cylinder. It's challenging to modulate quickly on the track but I've learned to get used to it over the years by getting on the pedal early. Not ideal, but have made it work.
Any advice is appreciated. This is driving me crazy.
