    Upgrading 318i brakes

Thought I would upgrade my 318i front brakes tomorrow , going to look for 325 calipers at a junk yard and get new vented rotors from bma, I'll do the rear a little later.

Are there any other calipers/brakes that will bolt right in from any other model, maybe older 5 series ?

honestly, new rotors, pads, bleed the system, you will have plenty of stopping power, even with stock stuff...

i think u will aslo need to change the vacum, in order to improve the power of braking...
and upgrading rear drums to disks, u will have problens with hand brake... 318 wires wont fit

Febi Guibo - I have new rotors / pads already on the car, bleeding the system is on the list of things to do also :)

Alex - Love your car ! PM me with your prices, I planned to pull them off a junked car but let me know how much you are looking for them.

volgapower - I'll order new parking brake cable, can you elaborate ?

Get rid of the drums in the back first and foremost.

That's the plan for now, just need to start making a list of parts to buy :p

I converted my 318 to rear disc, just get the trailing arms, hubs, brakes etc, and plan on buying new ebrake lines because the 318 ones wont work. I also opted to swap in a new MC/Brake booster. Stops wonderful now, better then a 325i due to my less weight.

Will I just need rear brake lines from a 318is/325e/325i or do they have to come from the exact car I am getting the trailing arms from ?

Will the new lines connect right up to the same location where current lines are connected to or did you have to make any custom lines/connections etc ?

Also, what MC/brake booster did you end up getting ?

                      TIA!!!

Nope, no idea why. Pretty weird car actually. No power windows, power steer, central locking etc, no OBC, came on steelies. But it does have vented rotors up front and disc in the back. no ABS. There is a possibility that the PO upgraded but they never mentioned it to me and the car was completely stock when i got it. Highly doubt someone would have changed brakes and left everything else standard. Car was sold new in New Zealand. I have also seen other M10 powered cars with discs as well.

Same deal with 320i's over here, some got disc and some got drums.

All ABS equipped e30's came with rear discs, all e30's had rear disc option, entry level models could have rear discs w/o ABS.

I here abouts 95% of 320i's have drums in rear.
