    Brake system novice, booster swap??

I'm looking to replace my 88 325e brake booster with a smaller diameter unit so as to provide clearance in the engine bay for a power project I have in mind. And I'd like to stick with a power brake set-up if possible.

I've done some searching and see that several people have used an E30 ix booster, E34 M5 master cylinder, and E32 remote reservoir to accomplish similar goals. But in my search for these and other parts I've noticed that the E23 735i booster and master cylinder combination seems to be far smaller in daimeter (which would better suit my needs). I am however a complete novice when it comes to brake systems, and have no idea what kind of effort it would take to complete a swap like this (or if it's even feasible in the first place?).

I again did some searching on E23 booster/master swaps, and found some information, but not nearly enough to make me comfortable enough to start buying parts. Can anyone offer me any advice? I've done plenty of engine, suspension, and body work before; but I've never touched any real brake work. So even basic information would be appreciated (like would I need new linkages and leavers in the passenger compartment as well?).

I'll appreciate whatever advice the board can offer.
    Thanks.

Well, I bought an E23 brake booster, master cylinder and reservoir yesterday. Here's hoping I can make it work. Looks like I've got some learnin-up on brake systems to do.

I went with manual brakes. They feel very good. Modifications are required to the brake pedal itself also to gain leverage and pedal feel.

how does that setup compare to stock?

on a related note, is it normal for your brake pedal to go in farther while sitting at a stop, ie your on the brakes stopped idling and the pedal slowly creeps in. is that normal or could i have a vaccum leak in my booster or something like that

On my M50 ive used a VW Golf MK2 servo and standard E30 master cylinder!
More or less a straight swap with the exception of a small spacer.
          M50 fits easily around it;)

Is your booster behind the firewall or are you not using one trent? That really frees up some space.
