    damn rear subframe removal

a couple of you know i was hacking at this for the last couple days but i finally got it off.

thinking the screw was the bit holding it on, i first removed those, wasnt too hard with a 4lb hammer. sure enough, wouldnt fall free.

i still had the diff in there because the drive shaft wouldnt come loose so i was working with bouncing the weight with a jack - nope. put the wheels back on with springs and jumped on the bumper, still nothing.

set it up on jack stands on the subframe to get some room to hit on the center tube and i could see that they were semi loose. so i positioned the jackstands under the rear frame and had a friend pry with a crobar while i put a metal rod in the hole and work it back and forth.

the first one fell out crushing my hand and losing balance thus hitting head on the body. easy enough. the other side went about the same but the 1cm nub BROKE OFF inside the frame!!

has this happened to anyone before? do i drill it out? i have a feeling this is going to be a mess.

    Has happened.

Hammer, chisel(a punch with a sharp edge, what is it really called in english?) and drilling will do the trick.

Don't try to drill out the metal, just make some deep holes into it, might be very diffuclt to get drill bitting to harsh surfaced alloy, but it will come off.

If the broken piece is long enough you can try to rock it with tube sticked inside, like you did when removing the subframe.

As Rocla said, drill + small chisel. I drilled a dozen small hole all the way around, then hammered it out with the chisel. Worked great, just don't drill too deep!!

      Keep it slideways!!
