    e34 Ball Joints???? HELP

    hey guys, i know its mostly a e30 site but has anyone ever done any work with a e34 5er, ball joints front und rear? do i need to punch them out or can they be repaced easier? thanks for the help. any links would be great.

    There are no ball joints in the rear, unless you're talking about those little pitman arms known as the 'dog bones.' Those you need to raise the trailing arm up a bit to unload the pitman arms and then you just unbolt them.

    The fronts are simple too. You're best off to buy complete arms though; and use the E32 750i bushings for the big thrust arm bushings. All 4 of the bushings in the front need to be preloaded before torqued, so you have to have the car on the ground when you tight them. To get to the nut for the smaller control arm ball joints you have to take out the 3 bolts on teh bottom of the strut tube to get the plate that all the ball joints mount on to come down. Loctite those bolts when you put the plate back up.

    If you need to do the steering, get the center link and pitman arm (connects center link to right side of the subframe) as well as the tie rods.
