Anyone have problems with cracked rotors with these backing plates? I've heard that the lack of lip increases air flow across the rotor face and can lead to problems.
Brake Backing Plates?

A guy from Vtmotorsports (who makes a product 3 times more expensive, but has these lips) said this. He said he has done extensive on track testing and without the lip air goes across the rotor face as opposed to cooling the disc via the vanes. He says that it leads to premature cracking of rotors and improper pad wear.
I do not know the guy personally and have not experienced this myself, that is why I was asking. I'm all for these brake ducts if they work as well as the lipped $$ versions. I hate the idea of paying 300 bucks for a pretty basic piece of metal.
I take it you have not had any problems on track with these ducts?
Maybe a cheap solution is to add a piece of rubber hose sliced to fit around the edge of these cheaper brake backing plates?Comment

I'm 99% positive that under hard enough driving (and therefore braking) conditions to make these vented backing plates worthwhile, rubber hose would simply melt.

I think if you have the metal working tools and skills to do that, you might as well just make your own backing plates with cooling hose connection.
I'll definitely be snapping photos of whichever ones I get.

Sam: I've started a thread about this over on Bimmerforums. The vendor who claimed that non-lipped backing plates cause rotor/pad problems has responded there.
