since the brakes have never been replaced on my '88, and lately there has been a weird vibration from the front rotors when i brake i figure it's time for me to replace the brakes!

ok, so i did some searching (DONT THINK I DIDNT!), and this is what im shooting for:

front: ate powerslot/ebc greenstuff
back: OEM/ebc greenstuff
fluid: super blue
lines: SS braided

-should i go ahead and get my calipers checked/replaced?
-same goes for my ebrake assembly.
-turnermotorsport has the brake lines, and i'm guessing i can get rotors/fluid from BMA, no?

If you're really worried about it, you can just rebuild the calipers and replace the bushings for the guide pins. You may want to replace your e-brake shoes, more than likely they are worn out/down to the medal.

I am running the exact same setup and I am not very happy with the EBC Greenstuff pads. They fade way too quickly when i start driving aggressively, and were hopeless at the last track day. I had brake fade going in to the chicane on the 3rd lap! I say go with the Redstuff or a different brand. I would never buy the Greenstuff again.

For a daily driver that sees light track duty in the hands of a novice, Hawk HPS pads and OE rotors are a good combination. There's no real advantage to slotted rotors other than a lighter wallet (which might make you faster).

I'm not a big fan of ATE Super Racing Blue as it will stain the brake fluid reservoir and make level checks more difficult. If you just want to spend money, ATE Type 200 is the same fluid, sans dye. A perfectly good alternative is Valvoline SynPower, which has a dry boiling point only 30F lower than ATE, costs less, and is widely available.

I've got slotted rotors, and I'm getting OEM next time around. I'd also go with HPS, even though I've had oly minor pad fade with no-name pads that came with my calipers, but maybe TWS isn't all that brake-heavy of a course.

If you have "Brake Shudder", before you change ANYTHING, carefully inspect your Control Arm Bushings. If you see much cracking at all, replace them first!

I strongly recommend AKG urethane CABs.

On my GFs '89 325i, the only mod is 225/50/16 tires. Her brakes shook the whole freeking car. The only change was the AKG CABs...no more shudder at all.

They do have good bite, but mine dust like crazy. Go with Hawk IMHO.

i had my cab's replaced earlier this summer, they should be fine, no?

ok so ate 200, oem rotors all around, hawk hps. i wonder about the hawks though because i think i heard from the threads i looked up that they had a lot of brake dust.. i'm wanting to avoid as much as possible without losing too much bite. going to be rollin on LS's i think.

No dust = ceramic pads
PBR/Axxis Ceramics are pretty good with a nice cold bite.

I've had the EBC Greenstuff pads on several cars and have auto-x'ed 2 e30's with them .
They performed as advertised/expected and I was happy with them .

Although they are going to dust , the dust is very light colored and is not as noticeable as other organic pads .

Hah! I'm using axxis ceramics (ultimates) and they dust all over the place. Not as much as OE, but plenty.

However, they have good cold bite and the friction coefficient holds up even with intense heat. I haven't gotten them to fade much at all using those with ATE fluid.

I'm not talking about Ultimates, I had a set of those on my last car and they dusted like a mother, a week after thoroughly cleaning my wheels they would already have dust on them. PBR/Axxis Ceramics, are a different pad than the Ultimates and do not dust.

edit: and the Ultimates have a pad fade temp of like 960* F.

ah- gotcha. I didn't know axxis had a different ceramic offering :)
