BBK and 15" wheel fitment

There is a brake template for the 15x8 on the website. They were designed around the 11" with Dynalite or Dynapro. Lots of Honda and Mini owners running the 8 & 9 with 11.75" Dynapro Fastbrake set up.Leave a comment:

im talking to the emilio from 949 racing. i just asked him if the 6ul wheels for e30's were gonna go into production and also if we could get a groupbuy going, so ill let you know soon about that. I was thinking 15x8 would be perfect also.Leave a comment:

I was looking into getting the 6UL wheels. I noticed they only go to +36 offset. Would it be safe to assume they would offer enough clearance. I'm currently deciding on whether to go 15x8 or 15x9.Leave a comment:

Ive got the rotors together(I went around and ran them in tight with 1/4" rachet).
I'll torque them tomorrow
I cut off the backing plates and ground off the tab.
I'll get the caliper adapters brackets back tomorrow(painted them at work)
Hopefully ill have everything in and blead by tomorrow night and I can post some pics.
Cant wait to see how well it stops.

Hi Mike.
Hoping you got luckier than the other client in San Diego who received two different rotors. Duh. Wonder what the guys are smoking in California.
Torque of the hat-to-rotor bolts should be around 30ft.lbs but honestly I prefer "feeling" them by hand. But f you insist on a torque value , then the 5/16" - 24 thread sockethead cap screws should be torqued dry at 32ft.lbs but I'd say 30 ft.lbs. Don't use any lub or Loctite. Nuts are self locking.
Sorry for the delay. Starting in mid August, all Wilwood parts will be shipped directly from Emery Motorsport in Illinois, and full kits will be available from there too. I hope to have better quality control on Wilwood components and faster shipping in the future. We also have teamed up to produce our own rotors in 300, 332 and 355mm and competitive prices. We will offer plain rotors. No grooves. No holes. Less wear on pads.

So here's the little "surgery" that was done to fit the Race kit on 15" x 7" Kosei K1 wheels. The wheels offer great lateral clearance but nothing extraordinary with radial clearance. Something has to be done. An 8mm spacer was used for the wide Hoosier to clear the strut. Balancing weight were relocalized.

track actually wasn't wet at all. For some reason the way the picture came out it looked like it was wet. I just bought those wheels new and they fit well. I loved the race kit at the Glen. They worked great!!!!Leave a comment:

Kosei K1 and Race kit
Many racers have stacks of Kosei K1 wheels in their garage. And it is too bad that they cannot be used, as is, with the front e30 Race kit without major spacing out. Nonetheless, I have been working with James Posig at www.jmttrackcars.com to see what can be done to make them fit. James currently has wide Hoosiers mounted on 15" x 7" K1s. He already had thin spacers to clear the struts. After installing the kit and the wheels, he determined that a "straight" fit was a no-no but could be achieved with some "modifications". So we discussed and tested solutions that didn't involve using huge spacers and wheels sticking out the fenders. Basically, we elected to shave some unneeded material off the outer ends of the caliper to clear the wheel. I will soon have pictures to show to what extend. Removing a bit of the casting safely cleared the wheel while not reducing any stiffness from the caliper. Just unneeded aluminum was removed. A bit of black paint and nobody will notice. Balancing weights had to be relocated though.
I also did some testing this weekend, by mounting and test fitting Superlite and Dynalite calipers. Despite being a bigger caliper, the Superlite uses a smaller radius and thefore has more radial clearance. 1mm more gap than a Dynalite. I was puzzled and checked with Wilwood's data, which confirmed my tests.
Superlite on 11.75" rotor as a 169.9mm radius
Dyna Pro on 11.75" rotor as a 170.9mm radius
BNDL on 11.75" rotor as a 170.9mm radius
The Sport kit with Superlite calipers will also fit a K1 if the same amount of material is removed as with th Race kit, while still allowing to keep the weights in their original location.

I test fitted a Sport kit with Kosei K1 wheel without any spacer. Let's say that while the wheel fits over the set-up, the clearance is not enough and will require to slightly grind the tip of each caliper to clear the barrel where the diameter is reduced. The Sport kit can use the Superlite caliper, but it can also be substituted with a Dynalite caliper, which offers a bit more lateral clearance bt less radial clearance (minus 1mm). The Race and Sport kits were initially designed for a Superlite, and a Forged Dynalite which no longer exists. The original Dynalite was stiffer than a billet Dynalite and offered a bit more clearance as it did not have as many sharp edges on it body.

For those who wanted to know if the Team Dynamic Pro Race 1.2 indeed fitted. Yes it does fits. Maybe want to use 3mm spacers for extra clearance.
Here's Willem at Watkins this weekend. Being wet, the track might not have allowed his front brakes to fully "express".

I had a first look at the 15" D-Force wheels, and also received some preliminary technical drafts a couple of months ago. Unless some aspects of the wheel have changed, I think they will be great track wheels, but might not offer enough clearance for a BBK. The barrels are not big enough around the caliper, where they meet the spokes. The radius doesn't clear the caliper, and the spokes hit it. Nonetheless, it is possible that the design has changed in the meanwhile.
15" x 8" TRM wheels will be a great fitment for 225.50.15 track tires.Leave a comment:
