Control Arm Bushings & Tie Rod Bushings

I had my new tires put on the cabrio today, bad news though: bushings for the control arms and tie rods need to be replaced.

They quoted me at $240 plus parts. I have no idea what the going rate is on replacing the bushings but I know that seems a bit steep. While my cabrio was in the shop, my brother let me drive his 1987 beater Escort. I went over some train tracks going way too fast and one of the bushings for the front sway bar fell to shit. The bushings kits were $12, two were needed. We replaced them in a good 2 hours.

Things are different with my car though. Its pretty damn low to the ground and I know the exhaust is going to be on the ground when we jack up the front center. My question is, if we found a lift, how hard and about how much time does it take to replace them.

Furthermore, where should I buy them from? I would like to be able to buy the kit, not just the bushings themselves, if they have them. I did some looking around, but they seem to be in the $20-30 range a piece. That seems a bit steep.

    Thanks in advance!

are you looking at getting stock bushings, or offset m3 style bushings?
The control arm bushings are not hard at all to replace, same with the tie rods. It is two bolts and a puller to get the front bushings out if you do not plan on keeping the rubber part, and the tie rods just require removal of the boot, and getting a nut loose. if you are looking for some quality offset control arm bushings, check out the link in my signature (http://www.treehouseracing.com).
I would go ahead and replace the tie rods while you are at it, I assume you mean that the tie rod dust boots went bad, correct?

I have no fucking clue. The guy showed me how much play there was with the car on a lift, the wheels rattled. He said the tie rod bushings & control arm bushings would need to be replaced. My front tires had abnormal wear to the inners.

What would my price be to get the parts from you? Any special r3v deals?

There might be, give Jon a call at 615-500-1331 tomorrow and tell him your from r3v and Rob sent you. I will let him know your gonna call when I get there tomorrow.
I do not know about the price of the tie rods, but you can get our control arm bushings for 159 a set shipped to your door. They are pretty awesome parts, really tighten up your steering. If you replace the tie rods at the same time, you will have a very "tight" feeling car, especially at high speeds. The best part about our bushings is that if they ever start to go bad again like yours, ours have a lifetime warranty.
I would replace these parts yourself, it should only take you a couple hours to get it done; you will need an alignment afer you replace the tie rods though.

Edit: I will be in Marblehead in mid to late August, we should meet up.

The place that I got my tires from owes me a front end alignment still. I'm going to see about having the insurance company pay for the front end suspension parts.

Let me know when you are going to be in Marblehead. Thats in Michigan, right?
