    newb question... 325i brakes?

are the brakes from a e30 325i any better then the ones from a 318i? and if so are they a direct fit? thanks guys.

I imagine they probably both provide similar braking power, and surely they would be a direct fit onto a 318i. I'm not certain, but I would think so.

I do know that there are two manufacturers: Ate and Girling. I have heard the Ate brakes are "better," although that may be up for debate.

Same - Same if we are talking about the '91 318i

only the very early 318i had smaller brakes and solid rotors.

Yeah, the only difference would be ATE or Girling Calipers, but that would make no difference.

so there would be no point in me putting the brakes from a 325i onto my 91 318i. so it should say on the calipers that they are ate or girling right. what years got which brakes?
i am asking this beacause i wanted to trade danny my bottle caps for some calipers. i might trade hom for something ells then. thanks guys!

You have Girling front calipers, ATE rear calipers (unless some one has screwd with them).

That is what my '91 325i HAD on it as well. Key word being HAD...

so what are the pros and cons between ate and girling? how come bmw put two different brake set ups on the car and didn't just stick with one manufacturer? seams kinda weird to me.
do the girlings have rubber guide pin bushings like the ate's?

Probably had something to do with the fact that early cars had rear drum brakes.
