    front wheel bearing question

So I installed new FAG wheel bearings today ( only got that brand due to the deal I got). I took a 36mm socket and taped them on.

On the one side it spines pretty damn freely. I can take my finger and it spins, no grinding sound.

On the other strut, this thing takes more than a finger to turn and it makes some grinding noises. I took my 3 leg puller and pulled the bearing/hub off a tiny bit and cleaned off the the round retainer attatched to the strut which goes around the bearing, thinking that might do it. I noticed while the bearing was pressed up slighly, along with me pulling up (only when doing this) it stoped making the grinding noise. When I taped the bearing back down, it still hard to turn/ makes grinding noises...

So my brand new bearing is already fucked?

The bearings in one are seized? Did you pack them with grease too?

BTW, they're spelled "tapped" and "spins."

Ken, I edited out that part, that dosn't seem to be the problem as the good bearing is doing the same (there supposed to be moving). I didn't pack them with any greese.

Is there any way of fucking the bearing up on install?

I've done this twice and didn't have any issue. My old ones on the new car smelled like a grease fire and still turned.

You replaced the whole hub, right?

Unless you put them on crooked or something, you really can't fuck it up.

Try packing them with bearing grease and report back.

yup, the whole hub (FAG). I packed some bearing greese in both of them. I have a feeling I'm going to have to deal with an annoying grinding sound after the fact. :|
