    rear arms... ABS -vs- non-ABS?

I've not been able to find anything that clarifies this for me so I turn to the laymen. :)

I know there are different axles and hubs for ABS-equipped cars. Are there also different rear trailing arms for ABS cars?

I'm still trying to refurb a rear suspension but have run into this question. I don't want to pick n pull rear arms I cannot use.

I think they are the same (abs / non abs)

Apparently they are different. The abs arms will have provisions for the pulse generators to mount while non abs will not have this. And recently a friend of mine tried to do his rear bearings in a non abs car and found out there are two different rear bearings (going by what he said).

So yes do some research and get the right parts needed before throwing money around in for the parts you need...

I have not researched these differences so I can not verify 100%.

      Good Luck

That's actually one of the logical arguments I started with but couldn't drum up a way to search for a definitive answer. The sensor has to go -somewhere- and there isn't a path from the rear brake carrier through to the pulse ring on the hub. That had me convinced the ABS rear arms must be different.

I think I now need to figure out what years/models had ABS and then plan another assault on the pick n pull yards.

If I'm dead wrong, warn me now!

Go part number browsing on www.realoem.com and see if you can come up with some differences there. I know my buddies car he just did rear bearings in did not have ABS and was a early early model car (84-85) and I think it even had rear drums.

I would look into it more but both e30's I have are ABS cars.

          good luck

The abs trailing arms will fit the non abs cars, but you need to cover the rear holes where the abs sensors would be (install a pair of bad abs sensors). This was when I got rid of rear non abs drum equipped trailing arms for disc brake 325i trailing arms out of late cabrio. I got them complete with the axles so I can't tell you if the axels are different or not.
