    Subframe bushings are teh ghey...

    ... some might even say... flaming?


    Got 'em both out and the new 70A AKGs installed in an afternoon. Got some Sil-Glyde from NAPA and they pressed in by hand. Sweet.

      they aren't the most fun thing to do. But they really aren't that bad and the rewards are well worth the work :)

          I've been wanting to do my subframe and rear trailing arm bushings but have been dreading doin it. So the parts are just sittin around.

            It actually hasn't been that bad for me so far. Still gotta get the thing back in though ;)

            While I've been around German cars for some time now, this is my first e30. I'm proud of the fact that I removed the entire subframe assembly by myself (without damaging me or it!) although the car spent most of its life in Texas and is essentially rust-free, so that put the odds in my favor.

                I did mine in a few hours, with no fire involved. I got lucky, though; my car is rust-free. I also did AKG bushings, and I love them.

                  I did mine at work a couple weeks ago. Pain in the ass. Of course, on a rust free car, it would be pretty simple. My car lived in the Akron/Canton area for about 17 of its 20 years.

                    what brand of subframe bushing do you guys use? I think oem is pretty pricey now adays.

                      Actually, OEM is cheaper than the aftermarket poly stuff. Stock rubber was $55.00 for a pair from Turner and AKG poly bushings are $90.00

                          i had a butane torch... didn't do crap. they just looked like marshmallow... they didn't burn up like that at all.


                          maybe mine weren't gay? ... they still sucked pretty hard...

                              There is a tool made just for those, works bitchin but costs about $300, so I guess if you are only doing the one, burning it out like a 50s grease monkey on a Chevy will work (real old guy trick).
