    How to diagnose wheel bearings?

I have a high-speed howl/vibration that I'm told might be a wheel bearing. How can I isolate which corner it's on (if at all?)

Thanks. I couldn't find an existing thread for this - please link if there is one.

jack the car up and give the wheels a wiggle. for the front wiggle top to bottom and left to right. if it has play going left to right its a tie rod or ball joint. if it has play top to bottom wheel bearing. for the rears just wiggle the wheels and check for play. when i say check for "play" it will feel as if the wheel is loose

Wheel bearings usually make noise long before they have noticeable play, at least on these cars.

Can you tell which end of the car the noise is coming from?

Bearings usually make more noise when you load them up, so see if you can tell which direction makes the noise louder or quieter when you turn the car. I'd also recommend replacing wheel bearings in pairs, unless you recently replaced one.

Steer back and forth (a little slalom) while driving see if the sound changes.

I changed my wheel bearings this weekend. I think the best way to tell is to jack the car up remove the wheels and give the rotor a spin while you listen for the howling sound.

For me, i went to a large open lot and drove like a slalom

when it weight of the car was on the far side it made the bearing load increase and the bearing made noise. then i replaced it

where did you gets your bearings? did they come with the ABS ring?
