        Yes, the E30 M3 rack is different from the 318/325 E30 rack. Mine is 3.5 turns lock to lock (m3 rack) vs. over 4 turns with the standard 318 rack. I'm unsure of any other differences; it's been a while.

                Be warned, it will not work without modifying the rack itself if you have a car that has an airbag.

                  325i rack = aluminum case
                  M3 rack = Steel

                  M3 rack = 3.5 LtL
                  325i= 4.2 LtL IIRC

                    and if the donor m3 is a late model that has an airbag?

                      Then plausibly it will fit. Just make sure its from an M3 with the airbag then.

                      Thanks Rob.

                          Why, I swapped a 1990 M3 Steering rack into mh 86 ETA and it bolted right up, just unbolt the steering column right at the flange at the rack, pull it out, installation is reverse.

                          all the hoses are the same, same tie rods, etc.

                          I fail to see the issue with airbag based cars

                            James and others, would you say it was worth the money for the M3 rack?

                              My wheel follows the curv of the road now, which I like alot.

                              I got the rack for about 200 bucks, (maybe 250 I forget) so it was worth it to me, seeing as it only had 86K miles on it.

                              the E36 M3 rack is another great option, however I am more then happy with the e30 m3 rack
