Hey guys, Ive been looking to upgrade my convertibles suspension for some time now and now that summer is upon me, I finally have time!
Heres the deal. Ive never done this extensive a modification to the suspension before but am confident that I can do it and might be recruiting some help
. Over the last couple months the vert has developed clunk/squeeks/pops in the front suspension when turning and wheezes from the rear shocks. So time for a replacement/upgrade. The former is extremely indicative to bushings and the latter sounds like shocks. So to continue, I plan on replacing CABs, TABs, and of course rear shock mounts in addition to springs, and shocks. I havent had a wonderful opportunity to get up under her lately to take a PROPER look but I think thats about all Ill need based on what I saw last time I was. A couple different questions arise.
1st. Should I look into replacing the subframe bushings? I know theyre a bitch. what are the signs they need replacing?
2nd. Im looking at both GC kits and traditional shock/spring kits but I want at least a 1.75" drop in front and 1.5" in back and not many cabrio aftermarket springs can offer than. So, what is the largest difference in coilovers and traditional springs? (Also Ill of course be getting camber plates) I will also be using urethane bushings to replace the rubbers.
3rd. What springs rates are most appropriate for a cruiser (no track use but cutting up asphalt on summer drives) Ive seen 500/700. Im not too concerned with comfort. Aesthetics and drop is mroe imporatant to me. Also Ill be changing wheels often so the ability to adjust would be nice. hence coilovers.
Also whats the most legitimate word on lighter Control arms, adjustable links, tie rod upgrades ect. Meaning are they really noticeable upgrades or just a necessity for the performance perfectionist?
Thanks!
