Need some help deciding on suspension

I'm thinking of going with the Ground Control Conversion Kit on my vert with the following specs:

    Spring rates: 500 front / 650 rear
    Spring length: 5"

The above numbers were given to me by an e30 mechanic and enthusiast.

I plan on using my billy sports with the kit...

The car is not used on the track...

I've been reading up on the spring rates and I'm finding a mix of opinions as to what the billy's can handle and what the ride would be like on a daily basis...

    Any thoughts would be appreciated...Thanks

If it's going to be a street only car, I don't think I'd go with rates that high.

More like something in the 350/500 range is what I would shoot for, I think alot of guys also run 375/475.

Best thing you can do, is CALL Ground Control and talk to Jay or Frankie and go over your needs/wants and they will be able to come up with a setup that will work for YOU.

I am also running sports. Jay said that Billies don't always hold up well to rates that high. I'm actually running 350 front and 475 rear and am very happy with the performance on the street, but it is pretty stiff. GC customer service is outstanding, though, so they will be able to help you.

But so would billy sports be decent for springs that are 448lbs/in front and 560lbs/in rear? Or do I need Konis? Can't really afford them though :(

you will hate yourself if you go with a rate that high. I know because i currently have 500/650 with a S52 swap....i bounce on the interstate...

If the car is not gonna be used on the track, why fuck with all the wanna be baller ass race car shit? Its a fucking VERT, drive it like one!

Coilovers on the street are pure bullshit.

Spring rates that high will absolutely SUCK on the street, you will need a fucking kidney belt to drive it.

The ONLY advantage they have are adjustable height, and that is easily negated by coil bind from straight wound springs.

Bouncy jouncy harsh ride FTL. Once again, coilovers are pure bullshit on the street.

You aren't gonna dial in 4 degrees of negative camber, are you? That is the other advantage of coilovers, the smaller spring diameter allows more movement of the spring to allow more camber...why the hell would anyone want that much camber on the street?

Find a 'vert you like the stance of and buy the same springs.

'Verts being the waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles magnets they are, you will have to limit the quantity of waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles you cart around in your car, but WTF, nothing over a size 5 anyway, right?

You want them just big enough to fuck back.

Ok well in my case I already have stiff springs installed. So what would be my best choice now? Should I just get softer springs and the billys? Or different shocks and keep the springs (what I would like to do)? I'm on a tight budget so costs definitely matters.

I'm running on H&R vert sports and I need the car to sit lower...I've been told that the only way to achieve this is by going with a coilover conversion kit...

I'm not looking for "bouncy jouncy" at all...hence...the ask for input!

Heh, What kind of shoes are you wearing? Running, Skate,or maybe Topsiders???

                        Why put a 1500 watt amp and a 12 in a trunk?

I just find that argument rediculous...

The springs are fine, your dampers are not sufficient to control them however. If you invested in good quality dampers, you'd have a comfortable ride even with those rates, but I doubt you want to spend $2k on just the dampers, so don't do it. Everyone who complains about poor ride quality has not experienced a high quality damper. Unfortunately I have recently, and now I need to get some. :(

I am new to the E30 scene. How do the coil over conversion kits work? I imagine they use the stock tubes, how to they attach? Does anyone have a DIY write up or pics of an install?

                            Thanks!

So I called GC and spoke to Mark with regards to the setup that I'm thinking of going with (First post)...He suggests that I go with 375/500. He is also saying that the Billy's may not be the best choice and that Koni's would work better...

At the same time, I was told that GC will always tell you that Koni's are a better choice but the Billy's will give you a more comfortable ride...

With that said, any thoughts or input? Thanks
