I am installing the rear shox. Do I have to have the car on the ground to fully tighten the shock rod in the trunk so it dose not turn while tightening it? any info would help.

It won't matter. But having the car off the ground will pull on the shock shaft and make tightening more difficult.
Depending on what shocks you have, there should be a hex or "flats" at the end of the shaft you can grab with a wrench to keep the shaft from spinning while tightening the nut.
Personally, I like to attach the shock mounts to the damper first and then install the assembly, then all you have to do is tighten the nuts on the mounts while your in the trunk.
