Leaking Steering Rack - Rebuild or Replace?

I have a leaking steering rack in my 325iC, probably from sitting for so long. For some reason, the unit in there now is a close-ratio unit, not the standard rack. It's really nice driving with it, but due to limited funds I wouldn't be able to replace it with another close-ratio rack (at least I don't think I could). I think I've seen rebuild kits for around $60 but I have no idea what goes into rebuilding the rack. What would you guys recommend? If replacing it, what's a fair price to pay?

Rebuilding the rack is a pain. I think I'd try a Power Steering "stop leak" first. If that doesn't work replace the rack.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

That's what I tried first, a whole bottle of that high dollar Lucas stuff :(

My rack was leaking last spring and I used the stop leak with excellent results. This spring (still not leaking) I switched to an E36 rack. If your due for a new rack the E36 upgrade is the only way to go.

I thought about that but I'm probably selling the car, and I don't have much cash.

Get some AT-205 Re-Seal at NAPA Auto Parts. Follow the directions on bottle. It works great.
