Ground control coilover and camber plate questions

I was getting some popping/creaking noises when I turn the steering wheel left/right so I decided to take at my suspension setup.

Upon examining the camber plates I noticed that they flexed when the wheel is turned and the noise seem to be coming from the passenger side camber plate when it is being flexed. Is this normal?

I also took a close look at the GC coilovers that I purchased used and noticed that the threaded adjustment collar just sits on top of the cut perch. Is this supposed to be like this or should it be welded together?

As shown in the last picture something is rotating to twist up the blue boot on the Bilstein shock.

    TIA for any help/information.

The perch and sleeve can't be welded together because the perch is steel and the sleeve is aluminum.

It looks like your top bearing is shot/corroded/frozen. Causing the strut to rotate around the spring or spring perch which would twist up the boot. Normally all of the components below the camber plate would rotate together.

      Thanks for the clarification.

So is the top bearing a user serviceable part? I can try taking the assembly apart to visually inspect it.

I think GC will sell you the parts to rebuilt your camber plates.

Although if you send your camber plates to them, they do not charge labor, just parts, to clean them up and rebuild them for you. That's what I did.

This is Jay from ground Control. There is probably nothing wrong with your camber plates.

That is what happens when you use Koni camber plate spacers on Bilsteins, probably the top nut keeps coming loose too. So you need some new parts there. Plus, that is a "weld-on" coilover kit, but the weld on parts have'nt been welded on. So you need that too.

Call the shop at 530 677 8600, and anybody here can help you, but go ahead and ask for me anyway.

Yes! The stock upper mounts articulate also, this is part of the way the e30 works, and what makes it stick so well.
